Job description

Location: Andover, Hampshire
Hours: Monday–Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: £14.25 per hour

Are you looking for a role where you can genuinely make a difference every day?

We're recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist school in the Andover area that supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism, communication difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, wants a rewarding career, or is looking to build experience within education. Whether you've worked in schools before or come from a background in care, youth work, coaching, support work, or customer service, we'd love to hear from you.

The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals. Small class sizes and a supportive staff team mean you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a real impact on pupils' day-to-day lives.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work alongside teachers and other support staff to help pupils get the most from their school day. No two days are the same, and you'll play an important role in supporting learning, encouraging positive behaviour, and helping pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups

  • Assisting with classroom activities and adapting learning where needed

  • Encouraging confidence, communication, and independence

  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively

  • Building trusting, supportive relationships with pupils

  • Supporting social development and life skills throughout the school day

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff

  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and enrichment activities

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for people who are patient, calm, positive, and genuinely enjoy helping others. Experience is helpful, but your attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.

You might have experience in:

  • Education or teaching support

  • Care or support work

  • Youth work or mentoring

  • Residential care

  • Mental health support

  • Sports coaching

  • Nursery or childcare settings

  • Healthcare

  • Customer-facing or community-based roles where you've built strong relationships and supported others

If you're resilient, a good communicator, and can stay calm in challenging situations, we'd encourage you to apply.

What's on Offer

  • Term-time only working hours

  • Ongoing training and development

  • A welcoming and supportive staff team

  • The opportunity to gain valuable experience within specialist education

  • A rewarding role where you'll see the difference you make every day

  • Potential long-term opportunities within education and SEN support

All applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and safeguarding checks in line with safer recruitment procedures.
