Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Aintree, Liverpool
Start date: January 2027
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Setting: Mainstream primary school

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for the security of a permanent role?

A welcoming primary school in Aintree is recruiting a confident and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant to join its support team from January 2027.

The school is looking for someone who understands that effective SEND support is about helping children access learning, regulate, communicate and become increasingly independent.

The Role

Depending on the needs of the school, you may provide a mixture of 1:1, small-group and classroom support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEND throughout the school day
  • Helping children access classroom teaching and complete learning activities
  • Breaking instructions and tasks into manageable stages
  • Using visual resources, modelling and structured routines
  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Delivering targeted literacy, numeracy or social-communication interventions
  • Supporting transitions between lessons, activities and environments
  • Encouraging confidence and independence
  • Following EHCP outcomes and individual support plans
  • Recording relevant observations and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
  • Supporting pupils during playtimes, lunchtimes and less-structured periods
  • Communicating professionally with parents and external professionals when required

The role may involve supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, learning difficulties or other additional needs.

This position requires someone with previous experience supporting children with SEND.

You should have:

  • Recent experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or 1:1 TA
  • Experience supporting children within a primary school or relevant educational setting
  • A good understanding of autism, ADHD, SEMH or communication needs
  • Confidence following EHCPs, pupil profiles and individual support strategies
  • A calm and consistent approach to behaviour and emotional regulation
  • The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • The reliability to commit to a permanent, full-time position
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be highly desirable.

Additional training in Team Teach, de-escalation, autism, speech and language, Makaton, PECs or trauma-informed practice would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Permanent employment from January 2027
  • Full-time hours within one Aintree primary school
  • The opportunity to become part of an established SEND team
  • Consistency with the same pupils, staff and routines
  • Support from the class teacher and SENCO
  • Opportunities to deliver interventions and develop specialist experience
  • Access to relevant professional development
  • The chance to see the long-term impact of your support
  • A role focused on meaningful inclusion, not simply supervising pupils
