SEN Teaching Assistant | Okehampton, Devon

Job Details:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
- Pay: £95 - £105 per day (depending on experience)

Our partner in Okehampton is an outstanding provider of education for students aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs, including those with Autism, learning disabilities, communication challenges, and emotional/behavioural difficulties. The school provides a holistic, child-centred approach to learning, offering a safe and welcoming environment where students can develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The school offers a bespoke curriculum, designed to meet the individual needs of each student, with a strong focus on building essential life skills, independence, and confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students in the classroom by assisting with learning activities and promoting engagement.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to each student's needs.
- Assist with the implementation of individualised learning plans (ILPs) and ensure they are adhered to.
- Help students develop key life skills, including communication, independence, and emotional regulation.
- Manage classroom behaviour by using positive reinforcement techniques and supporting students in developing self-regulation skills.
- Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, ensuring their well-being.
- Collaborate with the teaching staff and other professionals to ensure students’ needs are met.
- Assist in the monitoring and tracking of student progress, offering feedback and supporting assessments.
What We’re Looking For:
- A passion for supporting students with SEN, particularly those with Autism, learning disabilities, and behavioural challenges.
- Experience working with children in an education or care setting (preferred but not essential).
- Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Adaptability to work with a diverse range of students, each with individual needs and learning styles.
- A proactive, team-oriented approach to working with colleagues, teachers, and specialists.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for all students.
