SEN Teacher required in Leeds

Teaching Personnel have an opportunity for a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher within a Leeds special school.

Located in the Oakwood area of Leeds, the school are seeking an effective classroom practitioner who will be responsible for a class of up to 14 pupils aged 4-11 with a wide range of complex needs. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and learning difficulties including Autism, Global Developmental Delay, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.

The successful applicant will hold an accredited formal Teaching Qualification (either QTS or QTLS or equivalent). You must also have a sound understanding of teaching to meet the needs of SEN learners and of planning and differentiating lessons for pupils at P scale level. You will be required to teach across all subject areas - applications will be considered from primary, secondary and further education teachers who can demonstrate subject knowledge across the curriculum.

As a Special Educational Needs teacher, responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying clear and individualised learning intentions for all learners
  • Setting and delivering appropriate learning tasks, which challenge and motivate pupils and encourage a high level of participation
  • Providing a total communication-driven, physical and sensory curriculum, applying interventions outlined by Speech and Language, Psychology and Occupational Therapy Teams
  • Establishing and maintaining a safe, well-organised classroom environment and purposeful working atmosphere, which supports learning and in which pupils feel secure and confident
  • Managing behaviour with confidence, resilience and perseverance, and following agreed and consistent strategies alongside school, therapeutic and residential colleagues.
  • Liaising effectively with parents and professionals, and recording assessment and progress accurately for presentation at review processes
