Job description

Specialist Tutors Needed – SEN & SEMH – Hampshire, West Sussex, Portsmouth & Surrounding Areas

Do you believe that every child deserves to feel understood, valued and capable of learning?

Teaching Personnel is proud to be working with local authorities to provide 1:1 tuition for children who are currently unable to access mainstream education. We are seeking compassionate, patient tutors who can offer not only subject support in Maths, English and Science, but also the encouragement and reassurance that these pupils need to thrive.

Many of the young people you will work with have complex SEND or SEMH needs such as autism, ADHD, anxiety or social and emotional challenges. For them, learning is often about much more than academic progress—it’s about trust, confidence and building positive relationships. As a tutor, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils re-engage with education at their own pace, creating a safe and supportive space where they can succeed.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A warm, nurturing approach and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships
  • Patience, resilience and genuine empathy for pupils with additional needs
  • Creativity and flexibility in adapting lessons to suit each child’s unique way of learning
  • Confidence in delivering tailored sessions in Maths, English and/or Science

What We Offer:

  • £25–£35 per hour (PAYE)
  • Weekly pay
  • Flexible hours to fit around your life and commitments
  • Local placements to keep travel to a minimum
  • Ongoing support and guidance from a dedicated consultant
  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of pupils who need you most

This is an ideal opportunity for teachers who are looking for a more personal, relationship-focused role outside of a busy classroom. Whether you are retired, working part-time, or simply ready for a change, your skills and compassion can help transform a child’s educational journey.

Apply today and become the steady, positive influence a child needs to move forward—both in learning and in life.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
