Job description

A specialist independent SEN school in the Stoke-on-Trent area is looking to appoint a compassionate, skilled SEN Teacher to join their team as soon as possible. The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, communication difficulties and learning disabilities. They are seeking a teacher who is patient, resilient and genuinely committed to helping pupils thrive both academically and personally.

The role involves planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of small groups of students. You will be working closely with support staff, therapists and senior leaders to ensure pupils receive a consistent, structured and nurturing learning experience. Strong communication skills, a calm approach and the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils are essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching small classes of learners with diverse needs and abilities
  • Creating tailored lessons that support academic, social and emotional development
  • Using a range of strategies to support communication, sensory needs and engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants and specialist staff
  • Maintaining a positive, safe and supportive classroom environment
  • Tracking progress and adapting plans to ensure every child can succeed

The school is keen to meet teachers who are confident working within a specialist setting and who may have experience in SEN, alternative provision or mainstream environments with high levels of support needs. They welcome teachers from a variety of backgrounds, including primary, secondary and specialist phases, as long as you are passionate about SEN teaching and open to training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
