SEN Support Assistant

  • Location: Ormskirk

  • Temporary with a potential for a school contract following a successful period of probation

  • Level 2 teaching assistant qualification or above

Teaching Personnel, the UK’s leading supply agency, are recruiting on behalf of a primary school in the Ormskirk area. The school are seeking an experienced support assistant to provide support to children across Key Stage 1 with special educational needs, including ASC, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties. The role will start September 2023, and will run for the remainder of the academic year with the opportunity for a school contract for the right person.

The successful candidate will have a Level 2 relevant qualification or above. They will be responsible for providing either 1:1 or small group support to specific pupils within Key Stage 1. The sessions will be tailored to the IEP targets of the children and the successful candidate will track the children’s progress made in association with these targets and will set new ones in order to move them on. The role requires you to work closely with the school’s SENCo, who will monitor the children’s progression and provide any necessary support. Effective provision of a safe and reassuring learning environment is essential to the role; accordingly, the successful candidate must possess the ability to build positive relationships with the children based upon trust and mutual respect.

This primary school is graded ‘GOOD’ by Ofsted. Behaviour is described as good and pupils are well cared for and are happy in the school. Staff develop in the pupils a strong sense of equality and inclusion. Pupils with SEN and/ or disabilities receive good support in class from well-briefed teaching assistants.

The ideal candidate for this role will have recent experience working with individuals with SEND and will be sensitive to the varying needs of the children. They will be dedicated, adaptable and keen to support the academic growth of all the children in their care.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
