SEN Learning Support Assistant
Job description
A welcoming and progressive secondary school in Portsmouth is looking for a committed and caring Special Educational Needs (SEN) Learning Support Assistant to join its friendly, dedicated team.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to make a real impact by helping young people with additional learning needs grow in confidence and reach their full academic and personal potential.
About the Role
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with a variety of needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to deliver personalised support plans and differentiated learning strategies. A key part of the role is helping to create a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment that encourages independence, resilience and self-esteem. You will support students both in mainstream lessons and during targeted small-group intervention sessions.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with special educational needs, although school-based experience is helpful rather than essential. You will demonstrate patience, empathy and a proactive attitude towards supporting learning, and you will be able to build trusting relationships with students and colleagues. A DBS registered on the Update Service is required for this role, or you must be willing to apply for one.
