Design and Technology Technician
Job description
Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an enthusiastic and skilled Design and Technology Technician to join a forward-thinking and creative D&T department at a secondary school in Portsmouth.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality practical lessons and to help inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, and makers.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing and maintaining workshop and classroom materials, supporting teachers in lessons, and ensuring that all practical activities are delivered safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare tools, equipment, and materials for practical D&T lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Maintain and repair machinery, tools, and resources, ensuring all equipment meets current health and safety standards.

Support teachers and students during practical sessions, including demonstrations and project support.

Manage stock, order materials, and ensure efficient use of departmental resources.

Assist in developing innovative teaching resources and supporting the implementation of new technologies and techniques.

Uphold high standards of health and safety at all times, maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:

Practical, well-organised, and proactive.

Skilled in the use of workshop tools and machinery (e.g. saws, drills, 3D printers, laser cutters).

Knowledgeable about health and safety regulations in a workshop or laboratory setting.

Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
-
Passionate about supporting young people in developing creative and technical skills.
Experience in a school or educational environment is desirable, but applications are welcome from candidates with a background in engineering, design, manufacturing, or related fields.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
