Job description

Teaching Assistant – SEN Provision – Preston

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in the Preston area, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs. This is a rewarding full-time, agency position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored learning and emotional support to children aged 4–11. You’ll help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs

  • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies

  • Support classroom activities, lessons, and sensory play

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive communication

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, or social/emotional needs)

  • A caring, patient, and adaptable approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
