Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at [School Name]. This role involves providing one-to-one support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to access the curriculum and reach their full potential within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

You will work closely with the class teacher and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement tailored learning plans, adapt activities, and support the pupil’s social, emotional, and academic development throughout the school day.

Contract Type: Part-time (mornings only)

Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour
Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to a pupil with specific learning, communication, or behavioural needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated learning activities.
  • Implement EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets and track progress.
  • Promote the pupil’s independence and confidence within the classroom and school setting.
  • Support positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Liaise with parents, teachers, and external professionals where required.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, fostering inclusion and a sense of belonging.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships with children and staff.
  • Skilled in using clear communication and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Flexible and proactive, with good organisational skills.
  • Experienced in working with pupils with SEN (e.g. Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH) – although training can be provided for the right candidate.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (essential).
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
  • Relevant SEN training or experience (advantageous).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
