Start Date: ASAP | Contract: Temporary to Permanent | Full-Time
Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference every day?
We are working in partnership with a specialist secondary provision in Skelmersdale to recruit a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time role to start as soon as possible, offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis for the right candidate.
The Role:
You will be supporting students aged 11–16 who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access learning. Many of the pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and may display challenging behaviour as a result of unmet needs or past trauma. Your role will involve:
-
Working 1:1 or in small groups to deliver tailored support.
 -
Assisting the class teacher in managing behaviour and promoting engagement.
 -
Helping students develop strategies for emotional regulation and social interaction.
 -
Contributing to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who is:
-
Calm, consistent, and empathetic.
 -
Able to build trusting relationships with young people.
 -
Confident managing behaviour in a positive and supportive way.
 -
Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH needs, either in education, care or youth settings.

What the School Offers:
-
A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to education.
 -
A highly skilled, committed team of staff who work collaboratively to support every learner.
 -
Access to professional development and support from an experienced leadership team.
 -
The opportunity to truly impact the lives of young people who need it most.

This role would suit a support worker, youth mentor or teaching assistant who is motivated by helping others overcome barriers to learning. Whether you're experienced or looking to take your first step into specialist education, we’d love to hear from you.
