Job description

Could you be the difference in a child’s day?

We’re looking for someone special to join a welcoming Liverpool primary school this September — someone who truly understands how important patience, empathy, and consistency are when working with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant role, starting in September, with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff after an initial period through Teaching Personnel.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting pupils (mostly in Key Stage 2) who may find mainstream education challenging

  • Building trusting relationships and helping them feel safe and valued

  • Encouraging positive behaviours and emotional regulation strategies

  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and outside agencies to deliver personalised support

  • Being a calm and reliable presence — every single day counts

Who we’re looking for:

We’re after someone who’s not just confident, but compassionate. You’ll likely have some experience working with children with SEMH or SEND needs, either in a school or similar setting. If you’re naturally calm under pressure and know how to build a child’s confidence one step at a time, you’ll fit right in.

It’s not easy — but it’s incredibly rewarding.

You’ll need:

  • Experience supporting SEMH or SEND pupils

  • Great communication skills (with adults and kids)

  • Resilience, warmth, and a real sense of humour

  • A DBS on the update service (or be happy to get one through us)

The details:

  • Location: Liverpool (easily accessible via public transport)

  • Start: September 2025

  • Contract: Temp-to-perm through Teaching Personnel

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
