Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Littlehampton
Hours: Monday–Friday, full-time
Age Group: Secondary pupils
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Alternative Provision in Littlehampton, working with secondary-aged pupils who may have additional needs, behavioural challenges or have struggled within a mainstream school environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and passionate about helping young people succeed. You will work closely with teachers and the wider team to provide both academic and pastoral support, helping pupils to engage with their education and develop their confidence.
The role will include:
- Supporting secondary-aged pupils across the school day
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Helping pupils to manage their behaviour and emotions
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students
- Supporting learning and encouraging engagement in lessons
- Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team
- Helping create a safe, calm and positive learning environment
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people
- Be confident managing challenging behaviour
- Be calm, patient and consistent
- Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Be able to set clear boundaries whilst remaining supportive
- Have a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
Experience within SEN, SEMH, Alternative Provision, Youth Work, Residential Care or Behaviour Support would be particularly beneficial, although candidates with transferable experience will also be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
