SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
Are you passionate about supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs?
A welcoming primary school in Blandford Forum is seeking a committed full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.
This rewarding role involves working closely with primary-aged pupils who require additional support to manage their emotions and behaviour, enabling them to access the curriculum and thrive in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Supporting pupils with SEMH needs individually and in small groups
-
Assisting teachers in delivering tailored learning and emotional support
-
Helping pupils develop coping strategies and social skills
-
Promoting a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere
-
Collaborating with staff to meet individual pupil needs and monitor progress
Person Specification:
-
Experience working with children with SEMH or SEN (preferred)
-
Calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills
-
DBS registered on the Update Service or willing to apply

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
