The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant to support a high school-aged pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in Lancaster.

This is a full-time position starting as soon as possible and requires an educator who has previous experience supporting young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour.

The successful Teaching Assistant will provide consistent support to help the pupil engage positively with their education, manage their emotions and behaviours, and develop their confidence within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide tailored support to a pupil with SEMH needs
• Support the pupil with their academic learning and engagement
• Help the pupil manage their emotions and behaviour appropriately
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies when required
• Build a strong, positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive decision-making
• Work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral/SEND team
• Provide a calm, consistent and supportive approach throughout the school day

The Successful Educator

To be considered for this position, you must:

• Have previous experience supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional needs
• Be confident supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
• Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Be patient, resilient, compassionate and approachable
• Be able to establish clear boundaries while developing positive relationships
• Be committed to supporting the pupil's educational and emotional development
• Be available for full-time work and able to start as soon as possible
