SEMH Teaching Assistant (Sporty Background) – Chorley
Full-Time | Temp-to-Perm | Immediate Start

A specialist SEMH provision in Chorley is seeking a resilient and energetic Teaching Assistant with a strong interest in sport and outdoor education. This is a hands-on role within a complex setting, supporting both primary and secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

The Role:

  • Support pupils across primary and secondary age groups within a complex SEMH environment
  • Work closely with teaching staff to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
  • Deliver and support structured sports sessions, physical activities, and outdoor learning
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils to support engagement and progress
  • Provide classroom-based support as well as active, practical learning outside of the classroom
  • Promote positive behaviour, teamwork, and emotional regulation through sport

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Background in sports coaching, PE, or a strong personal interest in sport and fitness
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour (or similar backgrounds such as youth work)
  • Confident, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a proactive approach
  • Flexible, hands-on, and willing to get involved across all areas of the school day
  • Positive, outgoing personality with the ability to build rapport quickly

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
