SEMH / SEN Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Specialist Educational Needs' School based in Cambridgeshire, to appoint a Specialist Teaching Assistant on a full-time or part-time basis.

The school caters for pupils who display extremely challenging behaviour, due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH). Pupils are aged between 5 and 16 years, you will be expected to work in a variety of classes within the specialist school as and when required.

With a strong interest and previous experience, personal experience and/or knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN), the successful applicant will be a reliable and motivated individual, who is ready to start work as soon as possible.

This position would be ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants, Care Workers, Support Workers, Sports Coaches, Ex-Military, Ex Police Officers, Youth Workers and Ex Prison Officers.

The Role

  • You will be working with pupils between the ages of 5-16 years, ensuring they stay engaged in lessons as well as encouraging them to take part in class activities.
  • This is a very rewarding position, where no two days will be the same. One day you could be working with a pupil, who requires 1:1 support, the next you may be working as part of a larger class with multiple SEN pupils at one time.

Duties will include:

  • Promoting and assisting with the learning and development of the pupil(s) you are assigned to.
  • Encouraging pupils' confidence and independence.
  • Managing behaviour.
  • Preparing learning resources, as directed by the Teacher.

As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant you must be available to work from 8.30am until 3.30pm for a minimum of two days per week.

This is a long-term position, with the opportunity of becoming permanent.
