SEMH & SEND Learning Support Assistants

Location: Wirral (Birkenhead & South Wirral)
Employer: Teaching Personnel – Wirral Branch
Contract: Full-time & Part-time roles available
Start Date: Immediate & September 2026 starts

About the Role

Teaching Personnel’s Wirral branch is working in partnership with a well-established multi-academy trust across the Wirral area to recruit dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) and SEND Learning Support Assistants.

We are seeking resilient, compassionate, and proactive individuals to support pupils across a number of specialist and mainstream provisions in Birkenhead and South Wirral. These roles are available on both a full-time and part-time basis, with opportunities for immediate starts as well as September positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and SEND needs
  • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support pupils in managing behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals
  • Create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Encourage positive learning behaviours and independence
  • Support pupils both in and outside of the classroom setting

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH and/or SEND (school, care, youth work, or similar settings)
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • The ability to build meaningful relationships with pupils and staff
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to different settings
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners

Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE, NVQ, or degree in Education/Psychology) are desirable but not essential.
