We are seeking a dedicated, resilient and compassionate SEMH & SEN Support Worker to join a supportive and inclusive school setting in the BB14NW area. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs alongside a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access education and reach their full potential.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a real difference, understands the importance of building strong relationships, and can provide consistent, structured support in a classroom environment.
About the role
You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. The focus will be on helping students regulate emotions, engage in learning, and develop confidence and independence within a safe and nurturing environment.
Daily responsibilities will include supporting learning activities, assisting with behaviour management, and adapting approaches to meet individual needs. You will help pupils follow routines, manage transitions, and access tailored learning plans such as EHCPs and individual support strategies.
You will also play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and social development, working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to ensure each child receives the right level of support.
Key responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and SEN needs
Support emotional regulation, behaviour strategies and positive engagement in lessons
Assist with implementing individual education and support plans
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their wellbeing and development
Work closely with teaching staff and wider school teams
Support pupils with routines, transitions and daily structure
Promote independence, confidence and social skills
Ensure safeguarding and welfare of all pupils is prioritised at all times
What we are looking for
Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs is highly desirable
A calm, patient and adaptable approach to supporting challenging behaviour
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A genuine passion for supporting young people and making a difference
Understanding that behaviour is a form of communication and responding appropriately
Ability to remain professional and resilient in a fast-paced environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
