Teaching Personnel is seeking a strong Secondary PRU Teacher to start at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) at a small KS4 site in Cardiff.

The school are looking for a passionate and engaging Teacher, who is experienced in working with pupils to deal with very challenging behaviour. The position is full time and due to start immediately.

This PRU specialises in catering for pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school and as such, many of the pupils have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD).

 

About the school:

The school caters for learners from throughout the County of Cardiff with a capacity of up to 50 Key Stage 4 learners. Each of the classes are small, with no more than 10 pupils per class and is taught by qualified teaching staff and is supported by a teaching assistant.

The team of teaching and non-teaching staff offer a wide range of expertise and support to learners at the centre. Staff deliver Entry Level, GCSE, BTEC and other qualifications.

The provision supports pupils in becoming ambitious and capable learners as well as healthy and confident individuals. Over the past academic year, the school saw 100% of their learners leave with a recognised qualification, with many learners achieving a Level 1 and some Level 2.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leading classroom activities including planning, teaching and assessing learning, particularly with ‘your’ class. This might involve a range of subjects and topics and involve pastoral support.
  • Monitoring and recording progress, both academically and against EHCP outcomes
  • Working closely with pupils keeping them engaged, motivated and inspired to reach their full potential.
  • Working either 1-2-1 with pupils, or in small group settings to help them achieve their learning goals.
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants to direct them to effectively support the pupils.

 

A successful educator will have:

  • A commitment to inclusive education and a passion for working with neurodiverse students.
  • Experience in creating individualized learning plans and supporting students with a range of needs.
  • A flexible, empathetic, and patient approach to teaching.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
