The English Department

The English department is a well-established, highly regarded and collaborative team. Teachers are ambitious for their students and work closely together to deliver an engaging and challenging curriculum that develops students’ literacy, analytical thinking and communication skills.

As Second in English, you will support the Head of Department in driving standards, curriculum development and teaching excellence across the faculty. You will play a key role in helping shape the strategic direction of English while continuing to inspire students through outstanding classroom practice.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4
• Supporting the Head of Department with curriculum leadership and development
• Contributing to raising standards of teaching, learning and achievement
• Supporting colleagues through coaching, collaboration and sharing best practice
• Monitoring student progress and helping to drive improved outcomes
• Leading specific departmental initiatives and areas of responsibility
• Contributing to the wider life of the school and trust

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a candidate who:

• Holds QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
• Has a proven track record of successful English teaching across KS3 and KS4
• Demonstrates a passion for raising standards and improving outcomes
• Has strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Is committed to professional growth and continuous improvement
• Can inspire students and colleagues alike
• Has the ambition to contribute to departmental and whole-school development
