Job description

A well-established mainstream secondary school in Poole is seeking to appoint a Science Teacher to join their department on a full-time basis with an immediate start. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic teacher to become part of a supportive and forward-thinking school committed to high standards of teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and well-structured Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, supporting students to develop strong scientific knowledge, practical skills, and curiosity about the world around them. The role would suit both experienced teachers and confident Early Career Teachers who are looking to gain valuable experience within a collaborative Science department.

The Science Teacher will be expected to plan and deliver high-quality lessons, assess and monitor student progress, and adapt teaching to meet the needs of learners with a range of abilities. A commitment to inclusive practice, effective behaviour management, and student achievement is essential.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching Science across KS3 and KS4 in line with the national curriculum

  • Planning and delivering engaging, practical, and differentiated lessons

  • Assessing, tracking, and reporting on student progress

  • Maintaining a safe and purposeful learning environment, including during practical work

  • Contributing to the development of the Science curriculum and departmental resources

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice

  • Supporting the wider life of the school where appropriate

The school is seeking a Science Teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

  • Has strong subject knowledge in Science (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics)

  • Demonstrates confident classroom and behaviour management

  • Is passionate about inspiring students and raising attainment

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
