We are looking for a general science teacher to take on a full-time role from September 2023, for the Autumn term with a possibility of permanent employment. The position is based in Huntingdonshire.

In your role as secondary science teacher, you will educate and inspire students in various scientific subjects. Here you will teach students aged 11-16, possibly needing to support in ages 16-18, covering topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Lesson planning: Creating engaging lesson plans that align with the curriculum and educational standards, incorporating hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Classroom instruction: Delivering lessons to students, explaining scientific concepts, theories, and principles. You may use multimedia resources, visual aids, and technology to enhance learning.
  • Experiments: Planning and conducting experiments to help students develop practical skills, reinforce theoretical knowledge, and foster a scientific mindset. Ensuring proper safety procedures are followed during experiments.
  • Assessments: Administering and possibly designing tests and assignments to evaluate students' understanding and progress. Providing constructive feedback to help students improve their scientific knowledge and skills.
  • Classroom management: Maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment, managing student behaviour, and promoting mutual respect and cooperation among students.
  • Individual support: Assisting students who may require extra help or guidance, providing one-on-one support, and offering additional resources to facilitate their learning.
  • Parent communication: Communicating with parents or guardians to provide updates on student progress, address any concerns, and collaborate on supporting students' academic development.
  • Professional development: Engaging in continuous professional development, staying updated with the latest scientific advancements, educational methodologies, and teaching strategies. Attending workshops, conferences, or online courses to enhance your skills as a science educator.

Remember, teaching science is not just about imparting knowledge but also about fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students. Encourage inquiry-based learning, promote scientific literacy, and inspire your students to explore and appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
