Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a secondary school in Shirley, Croydon to recruit an experienced and driven Science Subject Leader for a full-time role starting in September.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Science specialist with leadership experience who is ready to take the next step in their career and drive excellence across a thriving department.


About the Role

  • Leading the Science Department across KS3–KS5 (Biology, Chemistry & Physics)
  • Driving high standards of teaching and learning across the department
  • Developing and implementing a strategic vision for Science
  • Monitoring student progress and raising attainment at GCSE and A-Level
  • Supporting, coaching, and developing teaching staff within the department
  • Overseeing curriculum planning and ensuring alignment with national standards
  • Using data effectively to inform teaching, interventions, and departmental improvements
  • Promoting a culture of academic excellence and student engagement in Science
  • Full-time role starting September

Essential Requirements – Please Read Carefully

✔️ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
✔️ Degree in a Science-related subject – essential
✔️ Proven experience teaching Science in a UK secondary school (KS3–KS5)
✔️ Previous leadership experience (e.g. Head of Department, Second in Charge, Lead Practitioner)
✔️ Strong track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes
✔️ Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
✔️ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

⚠️ Please do not apply if you do not meet the essential criteria, including a Science degree and leadership experience.
