Psychology Graduate Role - Mental Health Support Worker (No experience required)

Teaching Personnel are working alongside an SEN Provision in the York area. The school is a 'Good' rated innovative provider of education and care, supporting students aged 10 - 19 with complex needs typically related to SEMH Difficulties, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism and other conditions.

The school would like to employ a Mental Health Support Worker (SEMH) to support a group of pupils who are struggling to regulate their behaviour due to their mental health conditions. Your role is to support our children with their learning and general wellbeing to ensure every child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. Where necessary this may include supporting with care needs from time to time as well as positive behaviour management adopting a tailored approach to the individual child.

You will be expected to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the school. In addition, you will promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.

You will support the class teacher and contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through supporting the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum, aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.

Typically, a mental health support worker requires certain traits such as being able to remain patient when dealing with trying circumstances or emotional behaviour. They must also be accepting of other people’s lifestyles and understanding of how that person’s mental health issues may impact their day-to-day life. Most importantly a you worker must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and be flexible enough to deal with a range of different behaviour that may present certain challenges.

  • Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Pay per day: £77+ (Dependent on experience)
  • No experience required - All candidates must have an understanding and awareness of SEMH disorders, alongside an empathetic and nurturing approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
