Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate to join a welcoming secondary school in Gateshead as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring educational psychologists, teachers, or mental health professionals to gain hands-on experience in a supportive school environment.

About the Role

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students’ academic achievement, emotional wellbeing, and social development. You will work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support for students with a range of needs, including:

  • Special Educational Needs (SEN)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges

  • Behavioural or learning difficulties

This role offers a unique opportunity to apply psychological theory in real-world practice while developing valuable skills for future careers in education or mental health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group support to students with additional needs

  • Assist in planning and adapting lesson materials to suit individual learning styles

  • Monitor and record student progress, identifying areas for further support

  • Support positive behaviour management strategies

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement personalised support plans

  • Contribute to assessment processes and provide constructive feedback

  • Engage in professional development and school-wide initiatives

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a degree in Psychology (or a related field)

  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential

  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and emotional resilience

  • Has experience working with children or vulnerable groups (desirable but not essential)

  • Is committed to inclusive education and safeguarding

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
