Psychology Graduate – SEMH Support Role | Burnley | £13.75/hour
Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £13.75 per hour
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP
Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a specialist education setting?
We are currently recruiting for a supportive and dynamic SEMH school in Burnley that works with children and young people who present with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced educators, therapists, and behaviour specialists – ideal for graduates considering a future career in psychology, education, or mental health.
As a 1:1 and group support worker, you will play a key role in helping students manage their emotions, stay engaged in lessons, and make positive progress both socially and academically. You’ll be working with pupils who may display challenging behaviours, often linked to trauma, anxiety, or other underlying needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs

Assist in managing classroom behaviour and emotional regulation

Support whole-class activities alongside the teacher
-
Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils

Contribute to a safe and nurturing learning environment

Help implement strategies from EHCPs and behaviour support plans
Ideal Candidate:
-
Psychology graduate (or similar discipline – Criminology, Sociology etc.)

Passionate about mental health, behaviour support, or SEN education
-
Resilient, calm, and empathetic in challenging situations
-
Committed to supporting young people with complex needs
-
Previous experience in schools, youth work, care or support roles is desirable

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
