Primary SEMH Teacher

Location: Tower Hamlets
Sector: Primary (SEMH Provision)
Job Type: Full Time – Term Time Only
Salary: Pay to scale (dependent on experience & qualifications)

A supportive and forward-thinking school in Tower Hamlets, is seeking a compassionate and resilient Primary SEMH Teacher to join their dedicated team. This specialist role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering a highly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children’s lives.


About the role:

As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver tailored lessons designed to support pupils with SEMH needs, ensuring learning is both accessible and engaging.

  • Create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment where pupils feel supported emotionally and academically.

  • Work closely with the SENCO, support staff, and external professionals (e.g., therapists, behaviour specialists).

  • Use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to support pupil wellbeing.

  • Plan and implement personalised strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and build resilience.

  • Monitor academic, behavioural, and emotional progress, adapting your approach as needed.


Person specification:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Experience teaching in a Primary setting.

  • Previous experience working with SEMH pupils or in an alternative provision is highly desirable.

  • Strong behaviour management with a calm, patient, and empathetic approach.

  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and restorative techniques.

  • Ability to build trust and meaningful relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning.

  • A valid DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
