Pastoral Support Worker – SEMH School

Location: Dibden Area
Hours: Full-time, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: To be confirmed at interview
Age Range: 8–16 years

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for an experienced and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join a specialist SEMH school in the Dibden area, supporting students aged 8–16 years.

This is a challenging but highly rewarding environment, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, SEN and challenging behaviour.

The Role

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting students with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group pastoral support.

  • Supporting students with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.

  • Helping students manage conflict and difficult situations.

  • Supporting students to engage positively with learning and school routines.

  • Working closely with teaching and support staff to implement behaviour and support strategies.

  • Encouraging positive choices, resilience and independence.

  • Providing a calm, consistent and supportive presence throughout the school day.

  • Maintaining professional boundaries and contributing to a safe learning environment.

About You

Previous experience working with SEN and challenging behaviour is essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties or complex additional needs.

You will be:

  • Calm, patient and resilient.

  • Confident managing challenging behaviour.

  • Able to remain consistent and professional in difficult situations.

  • Empathetic and able to build positive relationships with young people.

  • A strong communicator and team player.

  • Proactive and willing to get involved.

  • Passionate about supporting young people to reach their potential.

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students.

Essential Requirement – Driving

A full driving licence and access to your own transport is essential.

The school is located in an area without a suitable public transport route, so applicants must be able to reliably travel to and from the school independently.
