We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Portsmouth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is committed to making a genuine difference to children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

• Build positive, trusting relationships with students.

• Support pupils to manage their emotions and develop positive behaviours.

• Assist with learning and encourage engagement in the classroom.

• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support individual needs.

• Help create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.

• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Patient, empathetic and understanding.

• Calm and confident when managing challenging situations.

• Resilient and able to remain positive under pressure.

• Passionate about supporting children and young people.

• A strong communicator and team player.

• Experienced working with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs (desirable but not essential).

Previous experience in a school or care setting is beneficial, but the right attitude and commitment to supporting young people are just as important.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
