Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a part-time basis, supporting pupils with special educational needs. You will play a key role in helping children to access learning, develop independence, and thrive within the school environment.

Job Title: Part-Time SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Nelson

Contract Type: Part-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: Monday 3rd November
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo.
  • Assist in adapting learning materials and resources to suit individual needs.
  • Support the development of pupils’ social, emotional, and communication skills.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and strategies as directed.
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in pupils.
  • Work closely with staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with SEN.
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and proactive in meeting children’s individual needs.
  • A team player with good communication skills.
  • Ideally experienced in working with children with SEN (though training will be provided).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
