Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Are you experienced in the planning and delivery of Reading activities?

Could you work with small groups and individual children in order to raise standards in spelling, fluency and comprehension?

If you have previously worked with lower attaining children delivering Reading focused intervention programmes then this may be a role for you.

The Role

This role will be to start as soon as possible, and continue for the remainder of the academic year, definitely until the Year 6 SATs. You will be expected to plan and deliver high quality interventions on a daily basis to groups and individual children. The age range of the children will vary from Y3 to Y6 and so you must be able to develop your teaching style in order to meet individual needs. You will have some guidance from the SENCO in school who has already targeted individual children for this type of support. There will also be good opportunities in the working day to discuss progress with the class teacher, and any input can then be implemented into next steps. To ensure you will be effective in this role it is imperative that you have a good knowledge of the Curriculum in KS2. You will be expected to work collectively with the Curriculum objectives and the local framework.

The School

The school is smaller than average and caters for children from a mixed catchment area, some children are from Asian Heritage backgrounds but mostly the children arrive from White British backgrounds. With the mixed catchment, the school are keen to drown out any disruptive behaviour using their structured behaviour policy, which seems to be effective. You must use this policy consistently and ensure you set professional boundaries with the children. The school have recently received GOOD by Ofsted during a full inspection, however the progress of children from Year 3-6 particularly in reading is falling behind the progress made in maths and writing. With this in mind, the Head teacher and the Senior Leadership Team have put together a recovery plan which involves the appointment of an extra member of experienced staff to work with targeted children.
