Job description

Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice

Full time

Portsmouth

September

Are you someone who finds energy in the laughter and questions of young people? Do you want to be part of a school community that believes in second chances, high expectations, and the kind of support that truly changes lives?

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join a close-knit secondary school in Portsmouth. This is a full-time role to start in September, with the offering of a rare opportunity to gain hands-on classroom experience while working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers across multiple subjects to support the delivery of engaging, high-quality lessons.

  • Offer tailored support to students, including those with special educational needs (SEN), helping them to build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their personal and academic goals.

  • Prepare classroom materials and learning resources that bring lessons to life—whether it’s helping with science practicals or setting up visual displays that make learning stick.

  • Encourage and guide students during group tasks and one-to-one interventions, becoming a positive and consistent presence in their school day.

  • Help maintain a focused, inclusive and supportive classroom environment, where every child feels seen and valued.

  • Participate in enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities, from homework clubs to themed school events.

Who You Are:

You’ll thrive if:

  • You’re passionate about making a difference, particularly for young people who may need extra encouragement or consistency.

  • You’re organised, reliable, and ready to learn on the job—whether that’s taking initiative in the classroom or studying for your apprenticeship qualification.

  • You have good communication skills and enjoy working with others in a team that’s tight-knit and ambitious.

  • You’re interested in inclusive education and want to develop your skills in areas such as SEND support, behaviour for learning, and emotional well-being.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a meaningful career in education—not just pass through it. You’ll be part of a school that has transformed itself through belief, consistency, and relentless optimism. If that sounds like the kind of place where you’d thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now with your CV!
