Learning Support Practitioner

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner by agreement)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Practitioner to join our welcoming and ambitious secondary school in St Albans. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEND team, you will provide targeted support to students with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, communication needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, and those requiring additional academic support.

Whether you are an experienced Learning Support Practitioner, a Teaching Assistant looking for your next challenge, or a graduate considering a career in teaching, psychology or special educational needs, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support to students, helping them access the curriculum and engage positively in lessons.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to support academic progress, literacy, numeracy and social development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Promote student independence, confidence and resilience.
  • Support students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and implement agreed strategies and interventions.
  • Monitor and record student progress, contributing to reviews and support plans.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for every learner.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting students with additional needs.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above.
  • Has knowledge of SEND, autism, ADHD or SEMH needs (desirable but not essential).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
