Learning Support Assistant - SEMH/Challenging Behaviour - Totton area
Pay: £13.75 per hour
Hours: Term time only, flexible to suit your lifestyle

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in the Totton area to recruit a resilient and dedicated Learning Support Assistant. The school supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, many of whom display challenging behaviour and require additional structure, consistency and positive role models.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who may have struggled in mainstream education and help them re-engage with learning in a therapeutic and structured environment. Previous SEMH experience is desirable but not essential, full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using consistent approaches.

  • Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • De-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively.

  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to promote progress and wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work, coaching or similar backgrounds welcomed).

  • Calm, patient and resilient when managing challenging behaviour.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Committed to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable pupils.

  • Willingness to complete relevant CPD and behaviour management training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
