Learning Support Assistant – Permanent Role – Shaftesbury
Support Young People to Thrive Within Specialist Education
A welcoming specialist school in Shaftesbury is searching for a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time permanent basis.
This nurturing provision supports children aged 4 to 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, autism and associated communication difficulties.
Every pupil has an EHCP and benefits from personalised support delivered through therapeutic and relationship-led approaches.
About the Position
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, therapists and pastoral teams to help pupils engage positively with learning while developing confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
The school provides a calm and supportive atmosphere where behaviour is understood as communication and every interaction is centred around building trust.
Responsibilities
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging learning activities
• Provide one-to-one and small group support
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
• Support pupils with communication and social development
• Help maintain safe and inclusive learning spaces
• Contribute to therapeutic and pastoral approaches
• Support off-site educational activities when required
• Build positive relationships with pupils and families

• Has experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• Is patient, empathetic and resilient
• Enjoys working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Can motivate pupils through encouragement and consistency

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
