Learning Support Assistants (Primary and Secondary Age)

Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £13.75 per hour
Start Date: Immediate (subject to clearance checks)

Special Education Needs schools in Portsmouth are looking for caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support children with a range of additional needs. The school provides specialist education for pupils requiring tailored support to overcome social, emotional, and learning challenges.


The schools that we work with cater to children and young people from primary through to secondary age, focusing on developing communication, independence, and social skills alongside academic progress. The pupils often have complex learning difficulties and disabilities, and the nurturing environment ensures every child is supported to reach their full potential.

Role Overview:
Teaching Assistants will work closely with classroom staff to provide hands-on support for pupils’ learning and development. The role involves assisting with classroom activities, supporting communication and behaviour management, and helping children engage positively in their learning.

Key Requirements:

  • Willingness to support children with special educational needs (SEN)

  • Background in support work, nurseries or similar will also be considered

  • Ability to work flexibly with primary and secondary age pupils

  • Must have a Child Workforce DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one at own cost

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Full availability to start now or in September, pending clearance to work checks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
