Learning Support Assistant – Liverpool Alternative Provision

A Liverpool-based alternative provision school is seeking a compassionate and committed Learning Support Assistant to support secondary students with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will work closely with students in small class settings, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The role involves fostering a nurturing environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with special educational needs during classroom activities.
  • Ensure all students are engaged and included in learning.
  • Build trust-based relationships that promote emotional and social wellbeing.
  • Assist in managing and de-escalating behavioural challenges using positive reinforcement.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide one-to-one support to help students develop confidence and key skills.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Confidence in handling behavioural issues calmly and effectively.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and dedicated to student success.

The ideal candidate will be someone who genuinely cares about supporting young people and is committed to helping them thrive in education. They will work collaboratively with school staff to break down barriers and build trust with students who may have had challenging experiences in mainstream settings.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
