Learning Support Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a calm, resilient and reflective Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist educational setting supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
This role is suited to someone who understands that behaviour is often rooted in trauma and unmet need. Our pupils may present with dysregulation, anxiety, avoidance, or challenging behaviour. We require staff who can respond with consistency, clear boundaries and a trauma-informed approach.
The Role
You will:
- Provide in-class and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Use de-escalation strategies confidently and appropriately
- Support emotional regulation and social development
- Build professional, trusting relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
- Maintain high expectations around conduct, routines and safety
This is a full time role, working Monday - Friday, term time only. We can not consider applications from those with part time availability.
About You
You will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs (education, care or youth work backgrounds considered)
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of attachment and trauma-informed practice
- Remain calm under pressure and respond rather than react
- Be consistent, fair and confident in setting boundaries
- Reflect on practice and be open to ongoing professional development
This is a structured environment where teamwork and communication are essential. Staff are supported through regular training and a clear behaviour framework.
The role can be demanding, but it is also purposeful and rewarding. If you are committed to helping young people feel safe, regulated and ready to learn, we would welcome your application.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
