Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve their potential?

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting Learning Mentors to work within colleges across South Yorkshire, supporting students with their academic progress, personal development and engagement with education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker or education professional looking to make a real difference in a post-16 setting.

The Role

As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students and college staff to provide tailored support both inside and outside the classroom. You will help students develop the confidence, resilience and skills they need to succeed in education and beyond.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring to college students.
  • Supporting students with their academic progress and engagement.
  • Helping students overcome barriers to learning and attendance.
  • Developing positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Supporting students with behaviour, confidence, motivation and emotional wellbeing.
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Working alongside teaching staff and pastoral teams to identify and address individual needs.
  • Supporting students with organisation, time management and study skills.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Helping create a positive, inclusive and supportive college environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Experienced working with young people aged 16+ or in an educational setting.
  • Passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Confident building positive relationships with students.
  • Patient, approachable and an excellent communicator.
  • Able to motivate and encourage students who may be disengaged from education.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and teaching team.

Previous experience as a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Pastoral Support Worker or Support Worker would be highly desirable. Relevant qualifications or experience supporting young people will also be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
