Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant
An Ofsted graded 'GOOD' primary school, with 'OUTSTANDING' behaviour, are looking to appoint an engaging and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide full-time general support in a Year 4 class from October half term until December 2019, with the potential of a school contract in 2020 following a successful period of probation.
The primary school in which this role is situated is located in the outer suburbs of Preston. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils known to be eligible for support through the pupil premium is well-below average, as is the proportion of children with special educational needs. The school aim to provide a happy and safe learning environment whereby each individual child is able to actively live out each day through the school's deep Christian faith. The Head Teacher, as well as the school's committed team of staff, are welcoming, approachable and are eager to support new members of staff to ensure they feel happy in the work that they do.
The successful candidate will provide general support to an experienced teacher in a Year 4 class. Responsibilities will include supporting lower attaining pupils and challenging higher achieving pupils during lessons; delivering 1:1 and small group interventions in order to boost progress across the core curriculum; and assisting the Class Teacher in providing an inclusive and engaging learning environment, whereby learning is enjoyed and encourages the children to take responsibility for their own journey in education.
In order to be successful in the appointment of this Classroom Support position, recent Key Stage 2 experience is essential. A good knowledge of the National Curriculum and the expected standard for the year groups in lower Key Stage 2 (LKS2) are necessary to provide the best support for the children. Consequently, confidence in delivering interventions in order to enhance progression across the core curriculum is of high importance. The school teach English using the popular Talk for Writing approach, which gives the children an opportunity to rehearse and enjoy the text before innovating specific aspects and then writing their own individual version. In Mathematics, the school are working on boosting the children's math fluency, which includes rapid mental addition and subtraction, and knowledge of the times tables. Accordingly, it is possible that the successful candidate will be required to deliver interventions in this area.
The Head Teacher, who will be the key point of contact for this role, is seeking the following:
- Level 2 qualified Teaching Assistant or higher
- Recent experience in Key Stage 2
- Confidence in delivering 1:1 and small group interventions
- Hard working, hands-on and willing to get stuck in to the position of general teaching assistant
- Friendly and will fit in well with the team of staff at the school
- Available full-time (8:30 - 15:30) from October half-term 2019
- Competitive rates of pay (£9.50 - £10.50 per hour, dependent upon experience)
