Interventions Teaching Assistant Job – Newport (Secondary School, ALN Support)

Are you looking for a rewarding Teaching Assistant job in Newport? Do you have experience supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or challenging behaviour?

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Interventions Teaching Assistant to work within secondary schools in Newport and surrounding areas. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis.


Job Details

  • Job Title: Interventions Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Newport & surrounding areas
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:00pm
  • Pay: From £13.75 per hour
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Sector: Secondary Education (Mainstream & ALN Support)

About the Role

As an Interventions Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges within a mainstream secondary school setting.

You will play a key role in helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally, working closely with teachers and SEN staff to deliver targeted interventions.

This role is ideal for someone who is:

  • Passionate about education
  • Resilient and patient
  • Experienced in 1:1 support or small group interventions

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ALN
  • Deliver targeted literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Follow all safeguarding and child protection policies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
  • Adapt to changing classroom and pupil needs

Requirements

To be considered for this Teaching Assistant role, you must:

  • Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
  • Hold a Child Workforce DBS (or be willing to obtain one)
  • Provide 2 professional references covering the last 24 months
  • Demonstrate resilience and confidence managing challenging behaviour
