Humanities Tutor

A local provision across Sunderland are searching for tutors to work with pupils who are referred to the service for various reasons including Home and Hospital Tutition, Pupils in Looked After Care and/or Challenging Behaviours.

The role will involve working with pupils on a 1:1 basis teaching Humanities subjects, primarily history and geography. Most students are working towards Functional Skills qualifications however some may be aiming towards GCSE levels so the successful candidates will be confident supporting with a variety of levels and subjects. If you are not confident across all levels please do let us know and we can tailor the referrals that we offer to you. 

The pupils in this service often have SEND needs including Autism and Social Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, therefore the successful candidate will be confident managing challenging behaviour and will have a nurturing personality. Most pupils are in Looked After Care and are in need of social and emotional support as well as academic guidance. You must have experience working on a 1:1 basis with pupils OR have relevant teaching experience, you do not necessarily need to be a full qualified teacher for this role but you must have relevant qualifications and experience if not. You will need to have access to transport as this role can be based across community centres, libraries, schools and foster homes. You could earn up to GBP30 an hour in this position depending on experience and the referral!
