Job description

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Slough, Berkshire
Position: Full-time
Reports to: Class Teacher / SENCO / Headteacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching and learning across the school in Slough. The HLTA will take responsibility for delivering planned learning activities, managing groups or whole classes in the absence of a teacher, and supporting pupils with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver planned lessons and activities to individuals or groups of pupils, including whole-class teaching when required.

  • Support pupils’ learning and development in line with the curriculum and individual education plans (IEPs).

  • Assist in the planning and preparation of learning resources and activities.

  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and supporting assessment processes.

  • Support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including adapting resources and teaching approaches.

  • Manage behaviour in the classroom to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to meet pupils’ needs.

  • Supervise pupils during break times, lunch times, and on trips or outings as required.

  • Uphold safeguarding procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.

  • Contribute to school development and participate in staff meetings and training.

Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with children in a school setting, preferably supporting KS1 or KS2 pupils.

  • Strong understanding of the national curriculum and teaching strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage groups or classes independently.

  • Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting all pupils’ learning and wellbeing.

  • Knowledge of SEND and inclusion best practices is desirable.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
