Higher Level Teaching Assistant

We are working with welcoming and supportive primary schools in the Tameside area who are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant. In this vital role, you’ll support learning across the school, deliver group teaching sessions to close gaps in knowledge, and provide cover for PPA and staff absences. Schools are looking for someone with strong subject knowledge and a commitment to delivering high-quality support in the classroom.
Location: Tameside SK16
Job Type: Full-time, 8.15am-3.45pm (Temp-to-Perm opportunity)
Salary: £90-£120 per day
Start date: Monday 5th January 2026
Key Responsibilities:
- Fast-paced position, moving from class to class during the school day
- Deliver pre-prepared lessons to whole classes in the absence of the teacher
- Support teaching and learning across school, working with small groups and 1:1 to raise attainment, particularly within reading, maths and SPaG
- Assisting in the preparation of high quality and effective learning materials
- Provide feedback to pupils and contribute to assessment
- Support the inclusion of pupils with SEND, EAL and varying abilities
- Cover PPA across school, potentially taking ownership of planning of a wider curriculum subject
Qualifications:
- HLTA status (or equivalent Level 4 qualification). Some schools would be willing to consider Level 3 Teaching Assistants who have the confidence and experience to cover class teaching.
- Experience working with primary school children.
- Strong behaviour management, classroom organisation skills and confidence to deliver high quality, engaging lessons.
- A flexible, proactive, and positive attitude.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
