Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Location: Tameside

Job Type: Full-time, 8.15am-3.45pm (Temp-to-Perm opportunity)

Salary: £90-£120 per day

Start date: Monday 3rd November 2025

Do you have the flexibility, drive, and creativity to support pupils in reaching their full potential?

We’re working with a welcoming and forward-thinking primary school in the Tameside area who are looking to appoint a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support learning across Key Stage 1. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled HLTA to join a supportive team and play a vital role in the classroom. The role has arisen as the school are thinking ahead and want to address gaps in learning within Year 1 phonics, support preparation for Year 2 summative assessments and cover staff absences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fast-paced position, moving from class to class during the school day
  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons to whole classes in the absence of the teacher
  • Support teaching and learning across Year 1 and Year 2, working with small groups and 1:1 to raise attainment, particularly within phonics, reading, maths and SPaG
  • Assisting in the preparation of high quality and effective learning materials
  • Provide feedback to pupils and contribute to assessment
  • Support the inclusion of pupils with SEND, EAL and varying abilities

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

  • HLTA status (or equivalent Level 4 qualification)
  • Experience working across KS1 and teaching of phonics
  • Strong behaviour management, classroom organisation skills and confidence to deliver high quality, engaging lessons
  • A flexible, proactive, and positive attitude
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
