An Ofsted-rated 'GOOD' secondary school located in Burnley, Lancashire, is currently seeking an innovative and dynamic Head of English to lead their English department. This role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated leader who is looking to make a significant impact on the educational experiences of students and the professional development of staff within the department.

The Head of English will be responsible for leading the English department, setting high standards, and ensuring the delivery of a robust and engaging curriculum. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices in the department.

Responsibilities:
*
Lead the planning, development, and delivery of the English curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.
*
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning outcomes within the department.
*
Foster an environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and a passion for learning in English.
*
Manage and develop the English teaching team, including mentoring new teachers and facilitating ongoing professional development.
*
Prepare and manage the department’s budget and resources.
*
Collaborate with other department heads and senior management to enhance overall school performance.
*
Engage with parents, external partners, and the community to enhance the educational opportunities for students.

Requirements:
*
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in English or a closely related field.
*
Extensive teaching experience in secondary education with a proven track record of excellent classroom practice.
*
Previous leadership experience in an educational setting, ideally as a Head of Department.
*
Strong understanding of the current educational landscape and curriculum requirements for English.
*
Excellent management skills with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
*
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
*
Commitment to personal professional development and to the coaching of others.
