Teaching Personnel are seeking to recruit a Head of Department for Music for a Secondary School in Hertfordshire!

 Location: Rickmansworth Area
 Contract Type: Part-Time, 0.8 FTE, Permanent
 Salary: MPS/UPS including Fringe plus TLR 2c
 Start Date: September 2025


We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Music to lead a vibrant and ambitious department. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and skilled educator to shape and develop the delivery of Music across all key stages while playing a strategic leadership role within the school community.

As Head of Department, you will be responsible for leading and continuously developing a dynamic and inclusive music curriculum that inspires creativity and enables students to reach their full potential. You will manage a committed team of staff and oversee a diverse extra-curricular programme, including ensembles, performances, and musical events, fostering a strong love of music throughout the school.

About the Music Department:

The department is highly regarded, with dedicated teaching rooms, extra-curricular spaces, and practice facilities. Approximately 10% of the student intake is selected for musical aptitude, underscoring the school’s strong emphasis on music education.

The team consists of two full-time teachers, supported by visiting peripatetic staff and a dedicated Performing Arts technician. The department is housed in a purpose-built music block, which is well-resourced and recently renovated.

Facilities include two large classrooms equipped with extensive keyboard and percussion instruments, interactive whiteboards, a computer suite featuring Sibelius notation software, and a fully-equipped recording studio. The department also boasts a wide range of instruments, including drum kits, electric and upright pianos, a Steinway Grand piano, a full Samba set, West African Djembes, and more, providing a rich and diverse learning environment.
