What is the Future Teachers Programme?
The Future Teachers Programme is a scheme across England & Wales, designed to help address the current shortages of teachers, by attracting and supporting graduates who are considering a career in teaching, but wish to gain paid school based experience prior to starting a teacher training course.
How does it work?
You will begin your journey to teaching as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, on a full time basis, working at one of our client secondary schools in Blackburn for the remainder of the academic year, starting ASAP. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, the predominant role will be to support targeted pupils on a 1:3 intervention basis. You will liaise with class teachers to plan and deliver intervention which aims to support pupils to achieve and exceed their expected targets. You will also engage in a range of tasks to get a full feel of what it would be like to be a teacher, from assisting class teachers across all departments including your specialism to covering pre-planned lessons and getting involved with planning/delivering your own lessons!
Upon successful completion of your 1 years experience as a graduate teaching assistant, you will begin a school based teacher training programme from September 2020 within a lead training school. With 2 successful partnership SCITT providers, the school has a number of options for supporting the successful candidate with their progression into teaching.

Am I eligible to apply for the Future Teacher Programme?
Applicants interested in apply to our Future Teachers Programme are required to be educated to degree level or have completed your degree by summer 2020. The school welcome applications from graduates across all subject areas including; English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, MFL and PE.
To be successful in gaining a position on our Future Teachers Programme, you must have a genuine desire for becoming a secondary teacher and must also be able to commit to the programme on a full time basis from September 2020 until July 2021. Should you be available sooner, earlier start dates could be considered.
