Job description

Are you a Psychology Graduate or a graduate in a related field looking to begin a rewarding career supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?
Do you have a passion for helping young people overcome challenges, develop confidence, and reach their full potential?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a caring and inclusive SEN primary school. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30-3:30.

In this role, you will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, and learning disabilities. Some pupils may also require assistance with personal care, and you should be comfortable providing this support where needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group interventions to help pupils progress academically and emotionally.
  • Foster positive relationships to encourage pupils’ independence and confidence.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to teaching staff.
  • Promote inclusion and create a calm, supportive learning environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A Psychology Graduate or has a degree in a related field (applications without a degree may be considered with relevant experience).
  • Passionate about supporting young children and making a positive impact in their education.
  • Patient, empathetic, and able to build strong, trusting relationships.
  • A confident communicator and effective team player.
  • Organised, reliable, and proactive in supporting learning and wellbeing.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Support or care work
  • Personal assistant roles
  • Residential or community-based work
  • Work with children or young people in educational or care settings

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
